I love wearing layers. Whether it is winter, spring or summer I will usually be in some kind of layers. But Fall is really the perfect time for it as the temperature fluctuates so quickly, especially in New England. You could leave the house in the morning and it will be 43 degrees and then come lunch time it will be close to 60.
